Sienna's Role

SIENNA MILLER is set to play acclaimed Hitchcock actress Tippi Hedren in a film of her life, which will show how the famous director's obsession with the actress ruined both their careers. The drama claims that the actress - who starred in one of Hitchcock's most famous films, The Birds, as well as Marnie opposite Sean Connery - rejected his advances and received a career-ending ban because of it.

DOES SIENNA LOOK LIKE TIPPI?

"Everyone knows Hitchcock was keen on his blondes," Gwyneth Hughes, the writer of the film - set to be titled The Girl - explained. "Unfortunately for Tippi, he developed a twisted and obsessive love for her that left her feeling isolated and terrified. He made repeated sexual advances towards her and tried to take over her life. Today we would call it sexual harassment but that concept had not been accepted back then."

Hitchcock plucked Hedren, whose daughter is actress Melanie Griffith, from obscurity when he spotted her in a television commercial for a diet drink in 1961. By 1963 she was the star of his most successful film, The Birds, and the director was controlling aspects of her off-screen life: reportedly banning her from sharing cars with her male co-stars; and insisting that all their conversations took place in private so they could be alone together. The film is based on biographer Donald Spoto's account of the couple's relationship in his 2008 book Spellbound By Beauty.

Miller - who played another iconic blonde, Edie Sedgwick, in the 2006 film Factory Girl - is said to have already met with Hedren to discuss the role. It will begin shooting on Thursday and will be screened on BBC2 next year, the Daily Mail reports. Imelda Staunton will play the director's long-suffering wife, Alma.
