"More Than A Costume"

Updated Monday December 5, 9.27am: After the Versace madness and last week's Marni announcement, H&M are whetting our fashion appetites again ahead of the launch of its first film collaboration, with  The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, by unveiling what we can expect when it hits stores on December 14.

As expected, based as it is on the film's dark anti-heroine, it features slouchy vests; slim-fit hoodies and jackets; skinny jeans and leather trousers; and cool battered baseball boots.

Updated Wednesday October 26, 9.38am: H&M is collaborating for the first time with a film, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, to create a collection of pieces inspired by the film's anti-heroine Lisbeth Salander, played in David Fincher's forthcoming film by Rooney Mara. To ensure its authenticity, H&M has enlisted the film's costume designer Trish Summerville.

"Salander's look is very real and very lived in, with pieces that her character has worn for a long time, like her jackets that act as her armour to shield her from the world," Salander explained. "I wanted the collection to have the essence and strength of Salander, with a fashion edge, and I'm pleased with the result! My goal is for women to find pieces in it that they love and then mix them with their own wardrobe to create their own personal style."

"I love this collection and what we've achieved with Trish," Anna Norling, designer for Divided at H&M, added. "She has such an amazing eye, is so specific and has such a strong vision. The clothes are all about the attitude - they have a toughness to them but they are also really flattering. The collection is so much more than costume - it's a fashion statement, it's modern, and it's right for now."

The 30-piece collection - comprising leather jackets and trousers; torn jeans; and slouchy hoodies, all in industrial shades of black, grey, worn white or dark red - debuts exclusively at Colette in Paris on November 28, with its own dedicated in-store area. The collection will be available from December 14 in Divided departments in around 180 H&M stores worldwide, as well as online.

  1. I've read that Rooney Mara got ad-hoc tattoos for shooting the movie. Hope she won't regret it (don't wanna her to end up like "Rico the zombie")
