Dame Vivienne
Westwood is donating £1 million to combat climate change. The
very charitable donation is the result of the designer's
frustration from promised, but apparently as-yet-not-seen, money
pledged by the government three years ago.
"Governments...are so slow that we can't wait for them anymore.
We have to get this moving and hope that they'll join in," she told
The Times.
The designer decided to donate the money upon learning that only
a small amount of the £4.2 billion committed to the World Bank's
Climate Investments Funds had actually been spent. Westwood has
donated the money to Cool Earth, a charity which aims to raise £7
million to protect rainforests in Peru, the Congo Basin and
Borneo.
Westwood will work with the charity to highlight this lack of
funding through the No Fun Being Extinct campaign - and call upon
support from her fashionable friends in the process. Visit www.nofunbeingextinct.org for further
information.
