Pringle of Scotland
Designer name: Alistair Carr
Design background: Alistair joined Pringle of Scotland as Design Director in March 2011 with a brief to reinvent the brand for the twenty-first century.
An MA graduate of Central Saint Martins (2003), Carr launched his own label upon graduation and showed for three seasons at London Fashion Week. He moved to Milan in 2005 when he began working at Marni. He then went to Paris in 2006 where he designed for Cacharel, Chloe and Balenciaga.
Design signatures: “Clean, modern and active.”
Career highlight: “Being appointed Design Director at Pringle of Scotland.”
How would you describe the Pringle of Scotland woman? “There is no ideal customer. However, I love the idea of someone who makes any brand's style their very own.”
Trademark piece: “It’s too early to decide this for my work at Pringle but the abstract intarsias have been extremely well-received.”
What’s next for your brand? “Our catwalk show at London Fashion Week. We are also working on a fantastic new art project, to be launched later this year at Art Basel Miami. Meanwhile, we continue to focus our efforts on rebuilding the Pringle heritage in a unique way.”
Three spring/summer 2012 inspirations: “My team, intarsia and the photographer Watanabe Katsumi.”
Who are your design heroes? “My grandfather, Azzedine Alaïa and Nicolas Ghesquière.”
What’s your favourite cultural hotspot in the capital? “The Tate Modern.”
In five years’ time I will be… “Busy.”
