Design background: Fred studied at the University of Brighton and worked with Shona Heath and As FOUR (New York), before setting up her own label.

What are your design signatures? “Wearable sculpture, intricate textures, material manipulation, graphic shape and pattern, strong colour contrast with black and white highlights, iridescence and metallics.”

How would you describe the Fred Butler woman? “Anyone who enjoys enhancing their look with an exciting addition to an outfit.”

Three spring/summer 2012 inspirations: “A particular underwater creature for its incredible colour, shape and movement.”

What’s next for your brand? “Sharing the colour further afield.”

Who are your design heroes? “Too many to mention! Anyone who has been brave and done what they had to do to make the world a more colourful, positive place - like Keith Haring.”

What’s your favourite cultural hotspot in the capital? “Right on my doorstep - Dalston. It’s a multicultural mix of fantastic influences all in one community, co-existing with so much happening that I don't need to go anywhere else!”

In five years’ time I will be… “Continuing to create tactile, enjoyable, wearable sculptures and focusing on translating the complete vision into fashion film. I'm excited to see how the medium will have evolved by that time.”
