Williams Handmade

Having completed a Masters in Fashion Artefact at The London College of Fashion, with a distinction and being awarded The Off-Catwalk Design Award, Sarah Jane Williams carried out design projects for various companies before taking up a position at traditional leather goods company Daines and Hathaway as well as developing the brand Williams Handmade.

The aim of Williams Handmade is to challenge the fashion industries view on craft by producing items which are completely original. Each item is produced by hand, all traditionally saddle stitched, produced with the finest British bridle leather. By utilising historical regional craftsmanship the hope is to increase appreciation for craftsmanship, celebrate British national heritage and illustrate the fact that there needs to be a greater appreciation of cultural diversity and preservation of our local and regional differences.

Williams Handmade first collection “Crafted Fashion” was launched in 2010 and received critical acclaim from the press and industry, being awarded Accessories Collection of the Year Award from ITS#NINE- International Talent Support and chosen to be included in The Power of Making exhibition in the V & A. Williams Handmade is now launching its second collection “The Orient” at London Fashion Week.

The Orient
It is 9th May 1930. The previous week Agatha and Max had made a trip to London to collect their collection of bespoke luggage which has been made specifically for a trip which they have planned. Agatha had asked the atelier to produce the designs to fit with the couples newly found interest in the Art Deco style and also to have a hint of Surrealism which was fashionable at the time. The atelier remained dedicated to the use of traditional materials and leather craftsmanship techniques.
Agatha is joining her new husband Max on a trip on the Orient Express from London Victoria to Constantinople for a visit to an archaeological dig site. Agatha and Max regularly travel on the British Pullman but still cannot help to be overwhelmed by the dedication to luxury, design, innovation and service.
As the couple are seated in the dining cart for their evening meal they are surrounded by opulent design with intricate marquetry, sparkling crystal and art deco design, the pair enjoy their champagne as they discuss the other passengers around them and speculate who they may be and where they are going. Mystery and intrigue is in the air. . .
