Show Report

INSPIRED by the heyday of the French Riviera, L'Wren Scott’s spring/summer 2012 collection almost transported its audience there with each piece a perfect fit for shopping in the sunshine or for lunching with friends al fresco.

Flattering and demure, the dresses, skirts and jackets proved as wearable as always, with nipped-in waists galore, and a palette ranging from sunny yellows and blues to dusky pink and inky navy.

"The colour palette and use of materials is so varied now,” said L’Wren’s boyfriend Mick Jagger of the collection. “ If you don't want to be that girl in that dress, then you can be another girl in a different dress.”

And indeed there was an enormous amount of variety in the collection. Summery, subtly embroidered shifts were the opening numbers, but soon gave way to sequin-embellished lace, flapper-style detailing and then elegant eveningwear – generally with forgiving capped or long sleeves.

Extremely feminine from start to finish, most dresses and tops featured flattering V-necklines and the few pairs of trousers included were either prettily embroidered or fashioned from satin or silk.

It was nothing wildly exciting, or drastically different, but it was certainly wearable. And for the woman who wants a good cut and a design that will stand the test of time, this season saw Scott deliver time and time again.
