Show Report

IF we were to use just one word to describe Carolina Herrera’s spring/summer 2012 collection it would be fresh. A palette of sunny yellow, vibrant green, poppy red and white worked its way into smart day dresses, prettily embellished evening gowns and practical separates for a collection that instantly brought sunny days and fresh air to mind.

The Carolina Herrera woman is always a smart, demure one, and this season’s offering shouldn’t disappoint her. Even with geometric prints and the occasional pair of relaxed trousers appearing halfway through the show, fabrics and shapes were kept very feminine, and a sprinkling of embellishment pepped up evening-ready gowns and tops. A sweet sparrow print was repeated on silky maxi dresses and panelled knee-length skirts, whilst waists were nipped in with belts of patent strips, or slinky bias cuts.

The dresses that ended the show were classic, red-carpet-ready Herrera, in buttery yellow chiffon and embellished emerald silk. She definitely knows what she does best, and it is this confidence that keeps the likes of Renee Zellweger coming back for more each season, as well as bringing in new fans – this time in the form of a rather incongruous Nicki Minaj. Whether old or new, fans of Herrera’s crisp, flattering clothes will be pleased to see that this new collection is as wearable and as classic as ever.
