Show Report

NEVER one to shy away from a making a statement - be it political or cultural - Vivienne Westwood dedicated her spring/summer 2012 menswear show to the Olympics.

Ever the sartorial patriot, the British designer made sure each catwalk look referred to the Games in some manner - be it the T-shirts that came covered in printed torches, medals and statuesque Greek figures, the laurel wreaths the season’s chosen headwear or the models themselves - each a little sweaty, to make the theme all the more authentic.

Westwood took her idea of sportswear into the evening, aiming to create attire an athlete could wear for a formal ceremony - as well as in the arena. Slim-fitting blue tailoring and pinstripe three-piece suits added a luxe edge, jackets of which were adorned with a red medal.

If this iconic designer has her way, next year’s Olympic athletes will be team Westwood.
