Show Report

ON the second day of the Paris menswear collections, all eyes were on the Louis Vuitton show – and Kim Jones’ debut for the label of which he became style director four months ago.

Known for his refined yet casual approach to clothing, Jones was master of his own eponymous label - and scooped two Menswear Designer of the Year awards along the way from the British Fashion Council – before being hired to inject some modernity into Dunhill as its creative director in 2008 and then joining the Vuitton gang.

Today he kept it cool and he kept it casual and tapped into the fashion house’s travel heritage with sailor and safari looks that had a sophisticated preppiness to them.

Blazers, shirts and ties were yacht club appropriate – and drew on a palette of red, white and blue - and huge holdalls indicative of intrepid travels.

Just as we had seen on the catwalks in Milan, bomber and varsity styles of jacket were prominent here too – but given Jones’ cool edge with scarves tightly twisted and then looped around the neck. The other big story here was checks – in blue and red on scarves and shirts, T-shirts and shorts.

Wherever the Vuitton man is going next summer, we’ll be sure to follow.
